Kazakhstan, Germany to set up joint engineering center

ASTANA. June 27. (Interfax) - Astana and Berlin have agreed to set up a joint engineering center.

The agreement was reached during a meeting between representatives of the Kazakhstan Ministry of Industry and New Technology (MINT) and a German delegation led by the member of the Bundestag Michael Glos, the MINT press department said in a press release on Saturday.

According to the press release, the new center is meant to transfer advanced technology to Kazakhstan.

"The executive partner in the deal from the Kazakhstan side will be the National Fund for Innovation," the release said.

During the meeting the sides also discussed prospects of cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, waste disposal, including that of coal-fired power plants, efficient energy and water use. A special focus was on developing clean technology, the release said.

According to the release, Kazakhstan Deputy Prime Minister Aset Issekeshev said that his country was interested in the German experience in the mentioned fields.
