Beijing. July 7. INTERFAX-CHINA - An estimated three billion cubic meters (bcm) of coal-bed methane (CBM) is being extracted annually in Shanxi Province's Jincheng City, state media reported July 7 citing a local official.
Jincheng City has an estimated 6.85 trillion cubic meters (tcm) of CBM reserves, accounting for 25 percent of China's total, according to Wang Yuewu, director of geological exploration research at the Jincheng Bureau of Land and Resources.
Firms operating in the area include China National Petroleum Corp.'s (CNPC) CBM units, China United Coalbed Methane Corp. and PetroChina Huabei Oilfield Co. Ltd. (Huabei Oilfield), and Qinshui Lanyan Coalbed Methane Co. Ltd, a subsidiary of Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group, the Taihang Daily report said.
More than 40,000 households in Jincheng use CBM, and four petrol stations and 2,000 vehicles have been retrofitted to use the gas, Interfax previously reported.
Seven forthcoming pipelines will transmit 5 bcm of CBM annually from Jincheng City to Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Hebei and Jiangsu provinces, the report added without disclosing a construction timetable.
