Excises on high, low quality fuel should differ by 1,500-2,000 rubles/tonne - Shmatko

KIRISHI. July 8 (Interfax) - The difference between excises for high and low quality fuels should be from 1,500 to 2,000 rubles per tonne, Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko said at a Friday meeting in Kirishi.

The Energy Ministry has already aired proposals to increase the differential between excise rates depending on class of fuel in a bid to encourage producers to switch to higher octane gasolines and diesel class 4 and higher more quickly.

The ministry planned to implement the measures as early as Q4 2011.
