Atomenergoproyekt starts surveying prospective location of SVRB-100 reactor
MOSCOW. July 11 (Interfax) - The Moscow Atomenergoproyekt has started to survey the prospective location of a nuclear power plant with the new-generation SVBR-100 (module lead-bismuth fast neutron) reactor in Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk region, the engineering company reported.
Most of the engineering and geological survey will be done this summer, and the report will be ready by early winter 2011.
Atomenergoproyekt will also make a seismic survey, which will be complete in 2012.
The pilot unit with the SVRB-100 reactor will be built by 2017. Earlier reports said that two sites in the Kaluga region had been considered as the possible location of the new reactor together with Dimitrovgrad.
The module lead-bismuth fast neutron reactor of the fourth generation with the capacity of 100 megawatts is meant for supplying energy to remote or isolated areas or for desalination of seawater. The technology was used in nuclear-powered submarines.
The project is being implemented by the parity joint venture of Rosatom and Eurosibenergo, AKME Engineering. It is a part of the federal program of new-generation nuclear technologies for the period of 2010-2015 and until 2020. Investments are estimated at 16-18 billion rubles.
