Proposals on Moscow and Moscow region's borders submitted to Medvedev
GORKI. July 11 (Interfax) - Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin and Governor of the Moscow region Boris Gromov have submitted their proposals on changing the borders of Moscow and the Moscow region to President Dmitry Medvedev.
Opening the meeting, Medvedev said that he hoped the Moscow government and the administration of the Moscow region would at least come up with preliminary proposals.
"This is a large-scale and long-term task," he said.
He recalled issuing instructions during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to "study prospects for Moscow's development and for synchronizing the development of Moscow and the Moscow region to make it more harmonious".
A wide range of problems that have accumulated in Moscow need to be solved, including the transfer of some government offices beyond Moscow, Medvedev said.
He explained that this was necessary to create "a new institution, a history-making establishment - the Moscow Financial Center and relevant infrastructure.
Medvedev mentioned "a whole number of issues that directly concern the health and well-being of Moscow and the Muscovites" that should also be addressed.
