Belarus, China trade may reach $3 bln in 2011 - deputy PM

MINSK. July 13 (Interfax) - Trade between Belarus and China may reach $3 billion this year, the Belarusian government press center said, citing Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Tozik in an interview with Hong Kong's Phoenix Television.

"Belarusian-Chinese trade was just $800 million in 2005. It is expected to reach $3 billion this year," he said.

In recent years the two countries have progressed from simple bilateral trade to implementation of major joint investment projects, he said.

"Joint investment projects with China totaling about $6 billion are being implemented in Belarus. About $3.5 billion of that is loan support from Chinese banks," Tozik said, adding that China is a strategic partner for Belarus.

Belarus plans to continue to develop major projects with China, including creation of a joint industrial park in Belarus, he said.

"Chinese business can come to Belarus with confidence. We are ready to offer Chinese companies the most favorable terms for operations in our country," he said.
