IES boosts electricity output 0.8% in H1, heat output down 0.4%

MOSCOW. July 19 (Interfax) - IES Holding, the majority shareholder in territorial generating companies TGK-5, -6, -7 and -9, produced 33.33 billion kilowatt-hours in the first half of 2011, 0.8% more than in the same period last year, the company said.

Heat output edged down 0.4% to 69 million Gcal in the six months.

Experts at IES-Trading said that the increase in electricity output at stations under TGK-5, -6 and 7 was driven by overall increase in consumption in the first price zone (European section of Russia and the Urals).

In addition, the decrease in inflow of water and reservoir holding at the Volzhsko-Kamsk cascade in contrast to forecasts meant that the hydroelectric power plant had to adjust its production plans during the high-water period. The decrease in HPP output was largely substituted by heat stations (GRES and CHP), which increased electricity output, primarily, at TGK-7, which operates in regions with a high share of hydro-generation. In June, operations at heat stations increased substantially since this was the peak period for repair operations at nuclear power plants, IES experts said.

The drop in heat output was largely the result of the warmer 2010-2011 winter seasons in comparison with 2009-2010 when regions where IES has a presence posted anomalously low air temperatures, the holding said in a statement. "Therefore, the decrease in heat output in comparison with the first quarter of 2010 took place at TGK-5 and 9 which have a large share of household consumers," he said.
