Russia to provide funds, food to famine-stricken Africa

MOSCOW. July 21 (Interfax) - Russia will give aid to the famine-stricken population in African countries, including by transferring donations to corresponding funds.

"We are weighing a plan to render urgent food aid to Somalia by transferring an additional $2 billion donation to the World Food Program Fund," Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich told the media on Thursday.

"In August-September Russian food is to be sent to Kenya, again at the expense of our donation to the World Food Program Fund, worth $1 million," he said.
