Construction wraps up on WEP II branch to Tieling City

Shanghai. July 22. INTERFAX-CHINA - Construction of a natural gas pipeline linking Tieling City in Liaoning Province to the 2nd West-East Pipeline (WEP II) was completed this week, the Tieling municipal government said July 21.

Shandong Province-based natural gas distributor Order Group spent RMB 360 million ($55.73 million) building the 105-kilometer (km) natural gas pipeline linking the northeastern city to the WEP II trunk line.

Order Group, a privately held enterprise, began construction on the pipeline in March after signing a natural gas supply contract with China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC), WEP II's operator.

According to the contract, CNPC will supply Tieling with 1.5 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas daily.

"The pipeline linking Tieling with WEP II will go on-line in August," a representative from Order Group who wished to remain anonymous told Interfax July 22.

Totaling 8,600 kilometers, the RMB 150 billion ($21.96 billion) WEP II carries natural gas from Turkmenistan in Central Asia to Shanghai Municipality in the east and Guangdong Province in the south.

WEP II became fully operational in mid-June.
