Enel to purchase gas from SeverEnergia for generating capacity in Russia

MOSCOW. July 25 (Interfax) - Italian Enel plans to purchase a portion of the gas produced by SeverEnergia to fuel its power plants in Russia, Enel OGK-5 CEO Enrico Viale said.

SeverEnergia can sell the gas to Gazprom or use it itself, he said.

SeverEnergia expects to conclude a gas purchase contract with Gazprom before gas production begins at the fields in late 2011 or early 2012.

Gazprom, which has sold its 51% stake in SeverEnergia, said at the beginning of July it would buy all the gas the company produces and that it was finalizing conclusion of an agreement. The announcement came following talks between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and ENI CEO Paolo Scaroni.

Yamal Development, a 50-50 joint venture between Gazprom Neft and NOVATEK , owns 51% in SeverEnergia. The other 49% is held by Arctic Russia B.V., a joint venture between Eni (60%) and Enel (40%).

SeverEnergia includes Arcticgas, Urengoil and Neftegaztekhnologia, acquired in the Yukos bankruptcy auction. Gazprom exercised an option to acquire 51% in SeverEnergia in 2009.

Enel owns 56% of shares in Enel OGK-% , whose generating capacity is concentrated in European Russia. Installed capacity totals 8,672 megawatts.

SeverEnergia plans to commence production at the Samburgskoye field in late 2011-early 2012.

ABC1+C2 reserves totaled 1.26 trillion cubic meters of gas and 722 million tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons as of January 1, 2009.
