Henan's power demand reaches record level
Shanghai. July 26. INTERFAX-CHINA - Henan Province's power demand reached a record high July 25, the Henan Electric Power Corp. (HEPC) said July 26.
The province's operational power installed capacity reached 41.83 gigawatts (GW) on July 25, exceeding the 40 GW mark for the first time, HEPC said.
In 2010, Henan's peak daily operational installed capacity reached 36.08 GW, according to HEPC.
Henan is the fifth province to see its daily operational installed capacity exceed 40 GW, following Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shandong provinces, HEPC added.
"While supplies have been tight, there have been no cuts in Henan's power so far this year," a representative from HEPC who wished to remain anonymous told Interfax July 26.
In 2010, to achieve strict carbon emissions targets, some cities in Henan cut power to industrial and residential users, resulting in social unrest. The provincial government responded by urging municipal governments to restore power to residential users.
