EuroChem starts up bulk cargo terminal in Tuapse

KRASNODAR. July 26 (Interfax) - Tuapse Bulk Cargo Terminal, which is owned by EuroChem, handled a first load of cargo on Tuesday, a terminal representative told Interfax.

The terminal took a trainload of granulated carbamide from NAK Azot (Tula region) into storage.

"The unloading was carried out successfully. There were no confrontations with environmental protesters," the representative said.

Residents in Tuapse had vowed to protest the opening of the chemical terminal at the Black Sea port.

However, the cargo was unloaded at the terminal in the presence of local environmentalists, representatives of public organizations and the media, while state specialists monitored air quality.

Tuapse Bulk Cargo Terminal was set up on the grounds of the Tuapse Marine Engineering Plant, which EuroChem acquired from Chernomorskye Tekhnologii. Construction of the terminal cost 5.2 billion rubles. It has capacity to ship 2.3 million tonnes of mineral fertilizer a year. EuroChem General Director Dmitry Strezhnev said EuroChem plans to double mineral fertilizer exports to 10 million tonnes by 2017. It will ship about 5 million tonnes via Ust-Luga and about 3 million tonnes via Tuapse.
