Construction wraps up on WEP II link to Luoyang City

Shanghai. July 27. INTERFAX-CHINA - Construction of a natural gas pipeline linking Luoyang City in Henan Province to the 2nd West-East Pipeline (WEP II) was completed on July 25, Luoyang Daily reported July 26.

The 9.5 kilometer (km) artery cost RMB 70 million ($10.86 million) and was underwritten ENN Huayou Gas Co. (Huayou Gas), a joint venture (JV) between ENN Energy Holdings Ltd. (ENN Energy), Luoyang Gas Corp. (Luoyang Gas) and CNPC Huayou Co. Ltd..

The pipeline links the prefecture-level city of Luoyang to a WEP II station in Yichuan County in Henan. It is forecast to transmit 500 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas to Luoyang annually from September.

Gas conveyed via WEP II is expected to ease power shortages in Luoyang this winter. The city's gas demand is forecast to exceed supply by 120,000 cubic meters per day in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2011, the report said.

WEP II became fully operational in mid-June this year.
