Russian stock indexes drop late in session on Wednesday
MOSCOW. July 27 (Interfax) - Russian stocks were holding their own until late in the session on Wednesday, when foreign commodity and equity markets posted a steep decline, sending the Russian indexes lower.
The MICEX index closed down 0.92% to 1,706.28 points and the RTS index was down 0.58% to 1,976.18 points.
Most of the blue chips declined on MICEX, including Rostelecom - down 2.8%, Tatneft - 2.1%, Rosneft - 1.5%, Lukoil - 1.34%, MMC Norilsk Nickel - 1.25%, Uralkali - 1.24%, Surgutneftegas - 1.17% (and preferred shares fell 1.8%), Polyus Gold - 0.9%, Federal Grid Company (FGC) - 0.9%, Gazprom - 0.75%, Gazprom Neft - 0.66%, Sberbank Russia - 0.58%, RusHydro - 0.14%, and Transneft preferred shares edged down 0.11%.
Among advancers, Sberbank Russia preferred shares closed up 0.78% and VTB rose 0.54%.
Volume totaled $6.322 million on RTS Classica, $367.24 million on RTS Standard and 38.2 billion rubles on MICEX.
