Rusal plans to export 240,000 tonnes of alloys for automotive industry in 2011

MOSCOW. July 28 (Interfax) - UC Rusal plans to export 240,000 tonnes of primary foundry alloys in 2011 for the automotive industry, the company said in a statement.

Those exports about to roughly 24% of Rusal's total expected alloy exports this year. The main markets for the alloys, which are produced at the company's Bogoslovsk, Bratsk, Irkutsk, Krasnodar, Novokuznetsk, Nadvoitsy, Sayanogorsk and Urals smelters, are South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, the U.S. and European countries.

Rusal is currently in talks with major Korean auto component suppliers Dong Hwa and Sungwoo, and with the Toyota group. A delegation from those companies that visited Rusal plants in Siberia discussed the potential for boosting production of aluminum alloys for casting wheel rims, the press release says.

Rusal, one of the biggest primary aluminum producers in the world, assumed its present size in 2007, when it merged with SUAL and the alumina assets of Switzerland-based trading company Glencore. It produced 4.083 million tonnes of primary aluminum in 2010, 3% more than in 2009. Output is slated to increase 2% in 2011, mainly due to increases at Rusal smelters in Siberia.
