Russia exports 2.38 mln tonnes of grain in July - Rosselkhoznadzor
MOSCOW. Aug 3 (Interfax) - Russia exported 2.38 million tonnes of grain and products made from it in the period July 1-29, the country's Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight Service according to Rosselkhoznadzor, whose center for evaluating grain quality issues quality certification.
Russia returned to the world grain market July 1 after a hiatus of almost a year, when it lifted its grain-export embargo imposed after a harvest much reduced by summer 2010 drought.
Turkey and Egypt were the biggest Russian grain buyers in July, receiving a respective 462,300 and 461,860 tonnes, Rosselkhoznadzor reported.
Shipments to Kenya weighed in at 173,370 tonnes, to Italy - 172,100 tonnes, and to Israel - 144,600 tonnes. Azerbaijan, Spain, Greece, the Netherlands, Yemen, Georgia, Lebanon, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Libya each purchased more than 50,000 tonnes.
Russian grain was exported to 43 countries in all last month.
Earlier, head of the CJSC Rusagrotrans strategic marketing department's analysis section Igor Pavensky estimated Russia's July grain exports at 2.2 million tonnes. Exports amounted to 1.94 million tonnes in July last year and to 1.34 million tonnes in July 2009.
