ENRC raises aluminum production 8.8%, ferroalloys 0.2% in Q2

ALMATY. Aug 3 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's Eurasian Natural Resources Corporation in the second quarter of 2011 increased aluminum production by 8.8% to 62,000 tonnes year-on-year, the company said.

Total ferroalloys gross (454,000 tonnes) and saleable (398,000 tonnes) production in Q2 2011 were broadly in line with Q2 2010 and Q1 2011. Ferrochrome production was 353,000 tonnes, an increase of 2% and 0.6% as compared with Q2 2010 and Q1 2011 respectively.

Bauxite extraction in the reporting period was 1.354 million tonnes (an increase of 1% and 1.5% respectively), alumina production of 409,00 tonnes was in line with Q2 2010 and showed an increase of 1.2% compared with Q1 2011.

Iron ore extraction totaled 10.617 million tonnes (4.8% and 0.9% down), primary iron ore concentrate production amounted to 4.497 million tonnes (2.2% down and 4.9% up), salable iron ore concentrate production was 2.004 million tonnes (16.7% down and 19.6% up), saleable pellet production totaled 2.098 million tonnes (an increase of 3.1% and a decrease of 5.8%).

Chrome ore extraction stood at 1.207 million tonnes (5% down and 0.2% up), saleable chrome ore production was 959,000 tonnes (an increase of 11.4% and 3.6%). Manganese ore extraction totaled 737,000 tonnes (down 6.2% and an increase of 23.7%), saleable concentrate production reached 281,000 tonnes (2.8% down and 63.4% up).

Copper ore extraction of 66,000 tonnes was 12.0% lower than in Q2 2010 and 8 % below Q1 2011. Saleable copper production for Q2 2011 was 7,361 tonnes, an increase of 42.2% from Q2 2010 and 12.0% higher than Q1 2011. Cobalt ore extraction was 245,000 (3.9%
