ArcelorMittal Temirtau to spend $150 mln on blast furnace overhaul
ALMATY. Aug 3 (Interfax) -ArcelorMittal Temirtau will allocate $150 million for an overhaul of blast furnace N3 scheduled for completion in Q2 2013.
The renovation will enlarge the furnace capacity by 14% to 3,935 cubic meters, increase production efficiency by 70% to 6,300 tonnes of pig iron a day, extend the service life of the furnace between overhauls up to 15 years and reduce industrial water consumption by 35%, improve energy efficiency by 8% and lower coke use by 2% per tonne of product.
The project will upgrade gas treatment system and install a new aspiration system for the cast house and stock house. Tubular cleaning technology will significantly reduce emissions and lower concentration of pollutants in line with European standards.
ArcelorMittal is pursuing a program to bring up the annual steel production capacity up to 6 million tonnes by 2015. International Steel Group ArcelorMittal in 2011 said it planned to invest over $500 million in development and modernization of its production facilities in Kazakhstan.
Arcelor-Mittal Temirtau (formerly Ispat Karmet), the largest steel plant in Kazakhstan, is part of Arcelor Mittal, the world's largest steel company. The group acquired the Kazakh plant in mid 1990s.
