U.S. CargillMeatSolutionsCorporation barred from supplying poultry to Russia
MOSCOW. Aug 4 (Interfax) - The Russian veterinary authorities have banned the import of poultry produced by U.S. CargillMeatSolutionsCorporation.
"The import of poultry meat and poultry products produced by CargillMeatSolutionsCorporation at the Springdale plant [Arkansas] has been suspended," the Russian Federal Consumer Rights Protection Service (Rospotrebnadzor) said in a statement circulated on Thursday evening.
The move followed the spread of a salmonella outbreak in the United States over the past few months.
According to the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 79 people in 26 U.S. states contracted salmonella. One person died.
"The activity of CargillMeatSolutionsCorporation has been suspended. From August 3, the company has recalled more than 16,300 metric tons of cooled and deep-frozen ground turkey meat produced between February 20 and July 2, 2011, and marked P-963," the statement said.
