Car production in Russia up 7 mths up by 64%, truck production up almost 50%

MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - Car production in Russia in January-July 2011 increased by 64% year-on-year to 947,000 units, the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said on Friday.

Production of trucks (including chassis expect for dump trucks) increased by 47.1% to 111,000 units and passenger busses - down slightly to 18,900 units.

Car production increased by 20.3% year-on-year in July, Rosstat said. Truck output went up by 19.5%.

Production of electric locomotives increased in the seven months by 30.7% to 166,000 units, freight railcars - 39.6% to 36,400 units and grain-threshers - 20.4% to 3,900 units. Production of excavators went down by 8.7% to 1,100 units.

The main producers of cars in Russia were OJSC AvtoVaz , Sollers Group and OJSC Avtoframos (Renault's plant in Moscow). The main truck producers were OJSC KamAZ and GAZ Group .
