Russia to contribute 20 million euro to NDEP in 2013-2016
MOSCOW. Aug 18 (Interfax) - Russia will make an additional contribution of 20 million euro to the Northern Dimension Environmental Partnership (NDEP) of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in 2013-2016.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed a resolution to that effect on August 11, 2011.
Russia will contribute 5 million euro annually.
The Finance Ministry has been ordered to sign an agreement on the additional contribution with the EBRD.
The NDEP was established in 2001 to implement environmental infrastructural projects in the Baltic and Barents Seas.
Most of the projects are being implemented on Russian territory, which, together with the European Commission, Sweden and Finland, is the leading contributor to the NDEP. Russia's contributions to the NDEP made prior to 2012 amount to 40 million euro.
In all, the NDEP has 20 projects in Russia with the total value exceeding 3 billion euro.
Water main projects have been implemented in several cities of the Leningrad region. Sewage projects are being designed for Arkhangelsk, Novgorod, Vologda, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk and Pskov. A sewage project in Kaliningrad is being implemented.
The partners are also considering projects to manage solid waste, reduce atmospheric pollution and increase energy efficiency.
An assembly of NDEP donors decided in December 2010 to add money to the fund to extend its activity until 2017.
