Russia stocks follow world markets higher
MOSCOW. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Russian stocks corrected upward on Monday amid gains on a day when stock indexes abroad snapped a three-day losing streak.
The MICEX index closed up 0.36% to 1,443.93 points after sinking as low as 1,406.76 points earlier in the session. The RTS index edged up 0.2% to 1,578.45 points.
The leading advancers on MICEX were Rostelecom ordinary shares - up 5.07%, Surgutneftegas - 3.25% (preferred shares gained 1.15%), Severstal - 2.15%, VTB - 1.78%, Polyus Gold - 1.32%, Gazprom Neft - 1%, RusHydro - 0.52%, Uralkali - 0.2%, Rosneft - 0.14% and Federal Grid Company (FGC) - 0.11%.
The leading decliners were Mosenergo - down 0.96%, Transneft preferred shares - 0.76%, Tatneft - 0.42%, Gazprom - 0.36%, MMC Norilsk Nickel - 0.31%, Lukoil - 0.23% and Sberbank Russia ordinary shares - 0.06% (preferred shares gained 1.48%).
