Russia wants to develop trade, economic ties with El Salvador - Lavrov

SAN SALVADOR. Aug 22 (Interfax) - Moscow is ready to support Russian entrepreneurs at a legislative level to develop trade and economic ties with businesses in El Salvador, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

"For our part, we are also looking to give an additional boost to this area of our bilateral cooperation. At the state level, we can and will provide support to business circles by creating the relevant legislative framework," the Russian foreign minister said at a meeting with local entrepreneurs in El Salvador on Monday.

During the visit, the two countries plan to sign an agreement about the foundations of the Russian-Salvadorian relationship, with a particular focus on the parties' intention to develop trade and economic cooperation on a mutually beneficial basis and to exchange experience in accessing markets and technological achievements, Lavrov said.

Over the past few years, Russia and El Salvador have made significant progress in broadening their political contacts, he said.

"Now, one of the key issues on our agenda is to step up our trade and economic cooperation," he said.

"Another equally important task is to create opportunities for a direct dialog between business communities in Russia and El Salvador. I am convinced that the efficiency of our economic cooperation largely depends on the extent of involvement of business circles," the Russian minister said.

The meeting between Russian and El Salvador business people will be attended by representatives from Russian companies such as Tekhnopromexport, Power Machines, Russian Buses - GAZ Group, Russian Helicopters, Rosoboronexport, and others.

Russian companies are keen on supplying automobile products, cranes, bulldozers, and other construction and power equipment to El Salvador, Lavrov said.

"We are hoping that today's meeting will enable its attendees to see the opportunities for the Salvadorian and Russian business and lay down foundations for what, I hope, will become direct cooperation and implementation of concrete projects between our countries' business circles in a not too distant future," the Russian foreign minister said.
