Canada's Magna organizing additional production facility in St. Petersburg - city authorities

ST. PETERSBURG. Aug 26 (Interfax) - Canadian automotive component producer Magna International Inc plans to develop an additional production facility at its site in St. Petersburg, the chairman of the city's committee for investment and strategic projects, Alexei Chichkanov, told journalists on Friday.

Chichkanov did not specify which of the two St. Petersburg sites would be the place of the new production facility and what would be produced. However, he said that Magna's production site in St. Petersburg might reach around 20,000 square meters by the end of 2012 and the start of 2013.

The company is currently setting up production facilities at a 12,000 square-meter site in Shushary and a 4,000 square-meter site in Kamenka.

Magna launched production of components in St. Petersburg in September 2010. The Cosym plant in Shushary employs 170 people. The plant produces automotive body parts for chassis and metallic elements for passive restraint systems in Hyundai, General Motors, Nissan and Volkswagen cars. The Cosym plans in Kamenka employs 50 people and produces mountings for Hyundai car bodies.
