ExxonMobil has opportunity to operate in Russian section of the Arctic - Putin
SOCHI. Aug 30 (Interfax) - ExxonMobil has an opportunity to operate in the Russian Arctic, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with the U.S. company's top management in Sochi on Tuesday.
"New horizons are appearing. One of the leading global companies, Exxon Mobil, is starting operations in Russia's strategic shelf and in the deep-water shelf," Putin said at the meeting.
Putin said that ExxonMobil possesses unique technologies for operations at Arctic latitudes.
"I was surprised that your platform in Canada can withstand a hit from 1 million tonne iceberg," Putin said.
He added that the strategic partnership agreement between Rosneft and ExxonMobil includes joint operations in the Arctic shelf and other sections, as well as the development of a research center for the shelf, personnel training and operations with financial institutions.
