Russian rail freight rises 3.3% to 819.1 mln tonnes in 8 mths
MOSCOW. Sept 1 (Interfax) - Russian freight volume rose 3.3% in January-August 2011 year-on-year to 819.1 million tonnes, Russian Railways (RZD) said.
Freight turnover amounted to 1.4 trillion tonne-kilometers in the eight months, 6.1% more.
Freight volume went up by 0.5% year-on-year in August to 105.5 million tonnes. Freight turnover in August increased by 2.4% to 177.6 billion tonne-kilometers.
Volume of coal in the eight months went up by 2.3% year-on-year to 193.4 million tonnes, coke - 4.9% to 8.8 million tonnes, iron and manganese ore - 9.4% to 73.3 million tonnes and ferrous metals - 3.9% to 49.7 million tonnes.
Volume of oil and petroleum products went down by 0.1% to 166.8 million tonnes, lumber freight - 2.8% to 28 million tonnes, grain and milled products - 4.8% to 11.1 million tonnes and industrial and molding materials - 11.4% to 21 million tonnes.
Handling of chemical and mineral fertilizers went up by 3.1% to 31 million tonnes, cement - 5.4% to 23.3 million tonnes and construction materials - 11.7% to 103 million tonnes.
Loading of freight into containers went up by 13.8% to 13.3 million tonnes in the eight months.
