Moscow airports facing problems with aviation fuel supplies

MOSCOW. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Airports of the Moscow air hub are facing problems with supplies of aviation fuel, several aircraft market sources told Interfax.

Airports of the Moscow air hub have been receiving smaller amounts of aviation fuel for the second week in a row, one of the sources said.

"The airports' operations could ground to a halt on September 5-10 if the situation does not change. Some 5,000 tonnes of aviation fuel and lubricants were offered on fuel selling exchanges last week, although the demand stood at around 270,000 tonnes. On the whole, up to 30,000-70,000 tonnes of aviation fuel are sold on these exchanges every week when the situation is normal," the source said.

Another source has confirmed this information, adding that the Russian government plans to address this issue at a meeting with oil companies.

"The airports are asking for the state reserve to be unsealed," he said.

According to the third source, Sheremetyevo Airport is suffering from the aviation fuel shortage the most.

"Domodedovo [Airport's] reserves are twice as large as Sheremetyevo's. Vnukovo's reserves are limited," the source said, citing the Russian Defense Ministry's order for aviation fuel among the reasons for the current shortage.

The airports' press services have so far been unavailable for comment.
