Afghan, Pakistani, Tajik leaders interested in Russian role in gas pipeline project
DUSHANBE. Sept 2 (Interfax) - Kabul, Islamabad and Dushanbe welcome Russia's interest in joining a project to build a gas pipeline linking Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India.
The presidents of Russia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan signed a joint statement in Dushanbe on Friday, confirming that they attach great importance to promoting and strengthening trade, business and security ties between their countries.
The document also addressed joint efforts to counter terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and organized crime.
"The sides welcome Russia's interest toward participation in the implementation of the project to build a Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline," the presidents said in their statement.
They also announced readiness to make efforts to speed up the CASA-1000 electricity transmission project, as well as to create financial sources for it.
