Denmark wants talks held on possible shelf border expansion in Arctic - foreign minister

MOSCOW. Sept 8 (Interfax) - Denmark hopes that the Arctic states will manage to settle their contradictions over the possible expansion of the shelf borders in Russia and other countries.

"Russia has the same possibility to present scientifically based claims on the continental shelf in the Arctic Ocean outside its Exclusive Economic Zone as the other Arctic Ocean coastal states, including the Kingdom of Denmark. Any overlapping claims will be solved through peaceful negotiations among the states involved," Danish Foreign Minister Lene Espersen said in an interview with Interfax.
