Turkmenistan receives major Caspian shallow-water commercial oil flow
ASHGABAT. Sept 15 (Interfax) - Turkmenistan has obtained a major commercial oil flow during #37 well-testing at the North Goturdepe field in the shallow waters of the Caspian Sea.
The country's state information service said the state oil concern Turkmennebit (Turkmenneft) had tapped three new highly productive zones a kilometer from shore at depths of 4626-4629 meters, 4612-4618 meters and 4448-4454 meters with a flow rate of 730 tonnes of oil per day, according to preliminary estimates.
It was reported in June that drilling at well #147 in a bid to reach a depth of 4,400 meters produced a powerful oil fountain and with estimated daily yield of more than 800 tonnes. A reservoir discovered in February 2010 by deeper drilling in Well No. 29 in Northern Goturdepe's onshore part has a daily output of 300 tonnes.
Well #147 is the first well to have been drilled in the shallower part of Turkmenistan's waters.
Northern Goturdepe is the field where Turkmenistan has for the first time used the productivity-raising technique of drilling deep wells in different directions from the same point. Each well may have a deviation of between 300 and 400 meters from the wellhead.
Preparations are underway to drill another prospecting well, #201, in the coastal zone to assess the gas potential of the deep-lying Pleiocene deposits.
