Prokhorov's diktat destructive for Right Cause - State Duma deputies
MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The diktat of Right Cause Party leader Mikhail Prokhorov has led to the party split and will inevitably cause the party's defeat in the upcoming parliamentary election, State Duma deputies say.
"That is a classic paradox: there is a man accustomed to reign his business and public organizations and there are collegial bodies, other party members. That is diamond cut diamond," A Just Russia fraction member Anton Belyakov told Interfax on Thursday.
"The Right Cause Party will not recover from the split; the right-wing has never gained over 5% in the entire history of Russia," he said.
"The main mistake of Prokhorov was the amendment of the party charter, which entrusted him with unlimited powers. The organization members did not tolerate that and started a revolt," head of the Liberal Democratic faction Igor Lebedev told Interfax.
"The party never had election prospects; it did not gain such with the arrival of Prokhorov and it will not have such after his withdrawal. Prokhorov is not charismatic enough for raising the party rating from zero to at least 7% [election threshold]," he said.
"A new attempt to form a liberal wing in Russia has suffered a big defeat right before our eyes," head of the Communist faction Anatoly Lokot told Interfax.
"Despite the liberal economic views of Prokhorov, he displayed dictator manners in the party. He did not deny being an advocate of strict discipline and party vertical, which naturally disagreed with the views of other party members," Lokot said.
