Russian juice market grows 2% in H1, has great potential, experts say
MOSCOW. Sept 15 (Interfax) - The Russian market for juice products grew 2% in the first half of this year, and has great potential for development, sector experts say.
A press release from the Russian Juice Producers Union reports this being said at the second international juice, nectar, and non-alcoholic beverages summit convened last week in Istanbul.
The summit was organized by the business-media agent Magenta Global Pte Ltd. and the Turkish Fruit Juice Association (MEYED). The Russian union provided informational support for the event.
The press release says that the director for marketing and company development for Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States at SIG Combibloc, Andrei Pisartsov, who represents the Juice Producers Union, said that the Russian juice market grew by 2% to almost 1.3 billion liters in H1. This growth was largely due to increased consumption of juice products aimed at the very young and of private name brands.
This category of juices could show more than 7% growth this year, Tetra Pak representative Martin Fejk thinks.
Last year, overall juice product output in Russia topped 3 billion liters, giving Russia fourth place among the world's biggest juice markets behind the United States, Germany, and China.
However, international experts estimate that per capita juice consumption in Russia is about 20 liters per year, where it is 30-40 liters in developed countries. "That's why the juice sector in Russia has great potential for active development in the next few years," the press release says.
Data provided during the summit indicated that people in Libya drink the most juice - 54 liters per capita annually, and folks in India drink the least - 600 milliliters. It was pointed out that the world juice market has been somewhat stagnant since 2006.
The Russian Juice Producers Union was created October 5, 1999, for the consolidation of the country's juice sector. It unites 25 companies that work the markets for juice products and packaging materials.
