Avtotor to start assembling new Kia, Chevrolet, Opel models around year-end

MOSCOW. Sept 19 (Interfax) - The Kaliningrad company group Avtotor plans to start assembling new Kia, Chevrolet, an Opel models by the end of this year or beginning of next, company materials indicate.

The automotive plant will begin turning out Kia Vengas next month. The company currently builds the Kia Cee'd Sportage (since July of last year), Soul (since this February), and Sorento (since this August).

Company plans include starting the assembly of Chevrolet Orlandos in November, a new Chevrolet Aveo in January, and a redesigned Chevrolet Captiva in February.

The plant may begin the production of a new Opel Antara SUV next February, a vehicle built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Captiva.

As reported, Avtotor intends to produce 247,000 automobiles next year versus 240,000 in 2010 and 170,200 in 2010.

Avtotor also builds BMWs and Cadillacs, in addition to Kias, Chevys, and Opels.
