Ruble falls to lowest position against bi-currency basket since Dec 2009 following rising demand for forex

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - The Russian ruble increased its decline on Tuesday against the Central Bank's bi-currency basket (set at 0.45 euro and $0.55), the value of which hit 36.8 rubles, its highest point since December 2009, because of heightened demand for forex because ongoing instability on world markets. The basket closed September 20 on 36.573 rubles, up 20 kopecks for the day.

The dollar went up by 7.5 kopecks to close at 31.355 rubles/$1 (hitting a session high of 31.51 rubles/$1) while the euro went up by 35 kopecks to finish at 42.95 rubles/EUR1 (session height of 43.23 rubles/EUR1).

The dollar's average weighted exchange rate on MICEX went up by 56.71 kopecks to 31.446 rubles/$1 in Today deals and 47.9 kopecks to 41.4538 rubles/$1 in Tomorrow deals. Combined dollar trading on MICEX amounted to $7.441 billion; of which $1.5 billion were Today deals and $5.94 billion were Tomorrow deals.

The euro's average weighted rate went up by 71.56 kopecks to 42.9372 rubles/EUR1 in Today deals and 75.53 kopecks to 43.0113 rubles/EUR1 in Tomorrow deals. Combined euro trading amounted to 418.094 million euro, of which 185.348 million euro were Today deals and 232.746 million euro were Tomorrow deals.

The overnight MosPrime Rate for the day came to 5.32%, up 22 basis points for the day.
