Chinese engineering companies may invest in Belarus
MINSK. Sept 21 (Interfax) - Belarusian Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Tozik has talked to China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH) and China CAMC Engineering Company (CAMCE), a SINOMACH subsidiary, about their possible participation in privatization projects.
"A wide range of issues on projects already in the pipeline in Belarus with SINOMACH and CAMCE were discussed at the government meeting, as well as new projects and the possibility of these corporations being involved in the privatization of Belarusian companies," the Belarus government said in a press release.
"Further steps to put in motion the agreements reached were discussed. A specific as possible timetable for the projects will be put together and a special task force, made up of members from the Chinese corporations, the Horizont holding company, China Eximbank and other organizations, will soon get to work on the industrial park project," the release said.
SINOMACH and CAMCE plan to carry out major projects in Belarus: construction of a bleached sulfate pulp mill at the Svetlogorsk Pulp and Cardboard Mill with 400,000 tonne annual capacity and the creation of a Chinese-Belarusian industrial park.
Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, recently visited Belarus and the two governments signed agreements on the establishment of a Chinese-Belarusian industrial park. SINOMACH and the Belarusian Economy Ministry also signed a framework agreement on cooperation in privatization. China Eximbank, CAMCE and Horizont signed an agreement on working together in the industrial park project.
SINOMACH includes 28 project organizations, which have over the past 20 years projected facilities with an area of 10 million square meters.
