Sibur mulls role in construction of petrochemical plants in Bashkortostan
MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Sibur, a major Russian petrochemicals group, will consider the possibility of participating in the construction of new petrochemical production facilities in Bashkortostan.
The company agreed to consider this as part of a socioeconomic cooperation agreement that it signed with the republic's government on Friday, Sibur said in a press release.
Sibur, as a shareholder of Bashkortostan's OJSC Polief, is already involved in the development and implementation of an investment program to expand production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) at the plant to 200,000 tonnes per year. The group will also help supply petrochemical enterprises in Bashkortostan with additional raw materials on market conditions.
Bashkortostan's government, in turn, will help strengthen Polief's cooperation with local suppliers of raw materials, as well as foster the development of the petrochemical products processing in the republic.
Tatarstan President Rustam Minnikhanov said earlier that Sibur was considering building a pyrolysis production line in Bashkortostan or Tatarstan. Sibur's press service confirmed the company's interest in participating in a project to build pyrolysis facilities in one of these regions.
"The company is in fact studying the possibility of participating in the construction of a pyrolysis production line in Tatarstan or Bashkortostan. Negotiations are at the initial stage, no specific decisions have been made yet about the form of our participation, nor on the geographical location of the new production," a Sibur spokesman told Interfax in April.
