Law on natural monopolies should be scrapped - FAS head
MOSCOW. Sept 28 (Interfax) - The law "On Natural Monopolies" should be liquidated since it hinders efforts to combat monopolization, the head of Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS), Igor Artemiyev, said during Government Hour at the Federation Council on Wednesday.
"There has been a special law on natural monopolies dating back to 1995. Because of this law, the whole assortment of sector-based laws has expanded. If something contradicts legal rules on protecting competition, this shouldn't come into contradiction with a sector law. We have long stated that the law on natural monopolies needs to be eliminated," he said.
Artemiyev added that the regulations within the natural monopoly law should be included in one section of the law for protecting competition.
