RWE interested in studying Ukraine's Black Sea shelf - Naftogaz
KYIV. Sept 29 (Interfax) - Ukraine's national oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy and Germany's RWE Dea AG, RWE's foreign upstream project operator, signed on September 28 a memorandum of cooperation in the study of areas of mutual interest on Ukraine's Black Sea shelf and in increasing the production of hydrocarbons in the former Soviet republic.
The Naftogaz Ukrainy press service reported that the document was inked during a visit to Hamburg paid by a delegation consisting of representatives of Naftogaz and Chernomornaftogaz.
As reported, the senior executive at Chernomornaftogaz, Valery Yasyuk, announced back in June that the state company and RWE were looking over the opportunity of making a joint bid for a license to one promising section on the Black Sea shelf. Yasyuk said that application would be made no earlier than next year.
Chernomornaftogaz is opening Ukraine's Black Sea and Sea of Azov shelves. It also produces hydrocarbons from deposits located in Crimea, and operates the Glebovskoye underground gas storage facility on the peninsula and trunk pipelines. All of its stock belongs to Naftogaz Ukrainy.
