Gazprom opens new deposit on Sakhalin shelf

MOSCOW. Oct 6 (Interfax) - Gazprom has opened a new Sakhalin-shelf deposit in the Mynginskaya structure in the promising Kirinsky section after geological survey work under the Sakhalin-3 project, the company said.

During the survey operations, an exploratory well produced gas and gas condensate flow. After the completion of testing, wells will be drilled to evaluate the deposit's reserves.

This new deposit is the second the company has opened in the Kirinsky section.

Gazprom holds the rights to use the resources of the Kirinskoye deposit, Kirinsky section (including the South Kirinskoye deposit), and the Eastern Odoptinsky and Ayashsky licensed under the Sakhalin-3 project. Gas Gazprom produces under this project will be fed into the Sakhalin-Khabarovsk-Vladivostok gas-transport system.

Geological prospecting done in 2009-2010 resulted in Kirinskoye deposit gas reserves increasing from C1+C2 75 billion cubic meters (bcm) to C1 137 bcm. Recoverable condensate reserves grew from 8.6 million to 15.9 million tonnes. The deposit is slated to come on-stream next year.

Gazprom opened the major South Kirinskoye deposit in September of last year. C1+C2 gas reserves are 260 bcm and recoverable condensate reserves 29.9 million tonnes.

Gazflot LLC is the geological prospecting operator and is a wholly owned Gazprom subsidiary.
