IMF mission to arrive in Georgia Oct 18 to discuss new program of cooperation

TBILISI. Oct 10 (Interfax) - An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission will arrive in Georgia on October 18 for a two-week visit to discuss the concrete details of a new program of cooperation with the Georgian authorities, the IMF's Tbilisi office told Interfax.

"Meetings are planned with the government's economic team and representatives of the National Bank, although it is still too early to tell what the results of the negotiations on the new program will be," the IMF representative said.

The IMF mission originally planned to arrive in Georgia on September 7 for a week-long visit, but the sides failed by that time to reach an agreement on the parameters of the new program. In accordance with the agreement of both parties, the visit was moved to the end of September. Then it was postponed to an undetermined date, purportedly the end of October or in November.

On September 1, 2011, Georgia's debt to the IMF was $1.749 billion, or 25.3% of the country's public external debt.
