RZD says Rusal ships 9% less aluminum by rail in 9 mths, Rusal disagrees
MOSCOW. Oct 12 (Interfax) - United Company RUSAL (UC RUSAL) cut aluminum shipments by rail 9.2% year-on-year in January-September to 1.839 million tonnes, Russian Railways (RZD) said.
Rusal itself disagreed with RZD's figures, saying rail shipments were actually level with the same period of last year.
RZD said export shipments by the aluminum giant by rail fell 9% to 1.733 million tonnes, and domestic shipments fell 13.2% to 1.733 million tonnes.
Then figures do not include aluminum produced by Rusal's Khakass smelter, capacity 297,000 tpa, which reduced output in May-June due to a railway bridge collapsing over the River Abakan.
Rusal has said it shipped less aluminum by rail because it was using other modes of transport, including road.

Rusal told Interfax that its smelters shipped 2.615 million tonnes of aluminum by rail in January-September, as much as in the same period of last year. It said 2.332 million tonnes were exported and 283,274 tonnes shipped to domestic consumers.
The company said its figures differed from those of RZD because RZD counted aluminum shipped in containers as container cargo without a break-down by type of cargo and consignor.
