Sberbank, Pension Fund employees convicted of stealing dead clients' money
MOSCOW. Oct 13 (Interfax) - Two Sberbank and two Russian Pension Fund employees were sentenced to three years' imprisonment for stealing 9.5 million rubles from dead clients' accounts.
This criminal case was opened in 2010 following a check, conducted by Sberbank's security service, which revealed that employees of the bank's Meshchansky district outlet Maria Sergeyeva and Olesya Miroshnichenko, and Pension Fund employees Stanislav Kalesnik and Yakov Dikhter illegally withdrew money from the dead clients' accounts in 2009.
All of them made use of Sberbank and Pension Fund databases to obtain direct access to the clients' accounts. The money was withdrawn from these accounts with the use of false passport details.
The prosecutor at Moscow's Meshchansky Court demanded that the suspects be sentenced to five years in jail and be fined 9.6 million rubles in favor of the victims.
The defense requested a punishment not connected with prison confinement.
All four pleaded guilty and repented.
