First GECF gas summit to be held in Doha on Nov 15
DOHA. Oct 14 (Interfax) - The first gas summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will be held in Doha on November 15, the organization said in a press release.
A long-term development strategy for the gas market will be presented at the summit, which will be attended by the leaders of the GECF member countries.
The GECF met on October 11 - 13 to talk about the summit. Representatives from nine countries within the organization took part in the talks.
In addition, the GECF board met on October 12-13 to discuss the preliminary results of work in 2011 and the program and budget for 2012.
The GECF was established in 2001 in Tehran. The forum acquired the status of an international organization with headquarters in Doha, Qatar in December 2008. A year later the Russian representative Leonid Bokhanovsky was elected GECF Secretary General. The forum members are Algeria, Bolivia, Venezuela, Egypt, Iran, Qatar, Libya, Nigeria, Russia, Equatorial Guinea, and Trinidad & Tobago. Norway, the Netherlands and Kazakhstan have observer status, without voting rights.
