Gazprom to discuss gas prices for Moldova considering joint projects
MOSCOW. Nov 3 (Interfax) - The discussion of a new contract for Russian gas deliveries to Moldova will be based on proposals submitted by Chisinau on Gazprom's participation in investment projects in Moldova, Gazprom said following a meeting between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Moldovan Prime Minister Vladimir Filat.
Gazprom owns 50% of the Moldovan-Russian company Moldovagaz. The Moldovan government owns 35.3% of the company, and Transdniestra owns 13.44%. In December 2006, Gazprom and Moldovagaz signed a contract for gas deliveries in 2007-2011. For 2007, the contract price for gas was $170 per 1,000 cubic meters. For 2008-2011, the price was recalculated using a formula based on market principles, so prices were determined using a lowering coefficient. In Q4 2011, Moldova will import gas at $400.47 per 1,000 cubic meters.
A new contract for 2012-2016 is currently being discussed. The Moldovan authorities consider the prices on imported gas to be "burdensome for the economy and the population of the republic" and are asking for a discount.
