Russia to ask ICAO to help solve emissions problem with Europe flights

MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said he hopes that the issues related to the introduction of new environmental rules for the aviation industry by Europe will be solved with the participation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

"We would like the relations with all of our traditional partners and in the framework of your organization, the ICAO, to be built on the basis of the commonly accepted international rules," Putin said at his meeting with ICAO Secretary General Raymond Benjamin.

"When relations go beyond preliminary agreements, then, of course, issues arise that we are trying to settle, including with your help," Putin said.

"We expect that these sort of issues must be discussed within an organization such as the ICAO," Putin said.

He recalled Europe's plans to toughen greenhouse gas emissions regulations for European flights.
