Almazbek Atambayev sworn in as Kyrgyz president
BISHKEK. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan's President-Elect Almazbek Atambayev was sworn into office on Thursday.
He took the oath, vowing "before God and people to honestly perform the duties of the head of state, guard human and civil rights, strictly obey the constitution and protect the unity of the people, as well as the integrity and security of the state."
After it, Kyrgyz Central Election Commission Chairman Tuigunaly Abdraimov presented Otunbayev with the president's ID card and a breast badge made of gold and silver of the highest quality, depicting Kyrgyzstan's coat of arms and national symbols and with the name of the country's new president engraved on it.
The Kyrgyz national hymn was played and an artillery gun salute was performed as Atambayev's inauguration was announced.
