Ukrainian steel industry ups roll output 6.2% in 11 mths

KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax) - Ukraine's steel industry raised finished roll output 6.2% year-on-year in January-November 2011 to 27.893 million tonnes, the Industrial Policy Ministry told Interfax.

Crude steel production rose 7% to 31.928 million tonnes and pig iron grew 6% to 26.504 million tonnes.

The country produced 2.05 million tonnes of steel pipes in the 11 months, up 31%. Ukrainian coke production grew 6% to 17.953 million tonnes. Hardware production was down 1% to 243,000 tonnes.

In November alone, Ukraine's finished roll output was down 1.8% from October to 2.542 million tonnes. Crude steel production fell 4.5% to 2.876 million tonnes and pig iron production decreased 5.5% to 2.421 million tonnes. Steel pipe production grew 1.6% to 183,300 tonnes, while coke production was down 4.9% to 1.602 million tonnes. Hardware production fell 19% to 17,000 tonnes.

Ukraine raised crude iron ore production 3% year-on-year in January-November to 72.646 million tonnes. Iron ore concentrate production grew 3% to 60.05 million tonnes. Prepared ore production rose 4% to 58.733 million tonnes, including growth of 7% to 38.52 million tonnes of sinter. However, pellet production fell 0.4% to 20.213 million tonnes.

In November alone, the country's crude iron ore production fell 3.9% to 6.436 million tonnes. Iron ore concentrate production was down 5.8% to 5.344 million tonnes, and pellet production decreased 0.8% to 5.533 million tonnes. However, sinter production rose 6.3% to 2.02 million tonnes.
