Most Ukrainian iron ore miners reduce pellet, up concentrate output in 11 mths
KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Most Ukrainian mining companies reduced iron ore pellet production but raised concentrate production in January-November 2011.
Poltava Mining, the core asset of the London-listed Ferrexpo plc, reduced commercial pellet production 3% year-on-year to 8.922 million tonnes, but raised concentrate production 1.5% to 10.444 million tonnes.
Poltava Mining exports all of its pellets.
The Metinvest holding's Northern Mining and Beneficiation Plant, from Kryviy Rih, told Interfax that it raised commercial pellet production 2.3% year-on-year in January-November to 9.301 million tonnes. Iron ore concentrate output grew 0.5% to 13.179 million tonnes.
Metinvest's Central Mining, also from Kryviy Rih, reduced commercial pellet production 0.7% year-on-year to 1.989 million tonnes, but concentrate production grew by 1% to 5.641 million tonnes.
Metinvest also runs Inhulets Mining, which saw iron ore concentrate output fall 2.7% year-on-year in January-November to 12.868 million tonnes.
Southern Mining, from Kryviy Rih, from Kryviy Rih, which is controlled by Ukraine's Smart Holding and Lanebrook Ltd, which owns Russia's Evraz Group, raised iron ore concentrate production 12.8% year-on-year in January-November to 9.266 million tonnes. It produced 1.716 million tonnes of sinter ore, up 10.9% year-on-year.

Ukraine as a whole raised crude iron ore production 3% year-on-year in January-November to 72.646 million tonnes. Iron ore concentrate production grew 3% to 60.05 million tonnes, the Industrial Policy Ministry has said. Prepared ore production rose 4% to 58.733 million tonnes, including growth of 7% to 38.52 million tonnes of sinter. However, pellet production fell 0.4% to 20.213 million tonnes.
