Russia starts building nuclear power plant in Vietnam
MOSCOW. Dec 2 (Interfax) - Russian specialists put up 10 drilling rigs on Friday on the site of what will be Vietnam's first nuclear power plant, said Rosatom, the state corporation running Russia's civilian nuclear industry.
Also, 20 pieces of construction machinery were pulled in, Rosatom said in a statement.
On Thursday, Vietnam gave Russia permission to build the plant in Ninh Thuan.
The Russian specialists will start by scrutinizing the site. Work to design the plant will start after that.
Russian engineering company E4 Group, which is working on a feasibility study, told Interfax it would also do some of the design work.
The project is based on a Russian-Vietnamese governmental agreement of October 2010.
The plant, to have two generating units of between 1,000 and 1,200 megawatts each, is to be built by 2020.
