Peugeot Citroen mulling option of organizing new car production in Russia

KALUGA. Dec 7 (Interfax) - French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroen is mulling the option or organizing new car production in Russia, Didier Alton, the general director of PSMA Rus (PSA Peugeot Citroen and Mitsubishi's joint venture in Kaluga), said at the forum AutoEvolution organized by the Russian business daily Vedomosti on Wednesday.

"We are seeking out possible options for partnership with any company, which produces cars in Russia, including local producers. This is part of our searches," he said.

Alton did not specify another party in the negotiations only saying that it is not GAZ Group. "Agreements still haven't been reached," he said.

It has been reported that the PSMA Rus plant could produce 50,000 Peugeot, Citroen and Mitsubishi automobiles in 2011. Between April 2010 (when the plant began to operate) and December 2010, the plant produced 17,000 of these automobiles.

The plant's initial capacity is 45,000 cars per year. In 2012, its capacity is planned to increase to 125,000 cars, at which time the plant will move to full cycle production. In the future, the plant is scheduled to produce up to 300,000 Peugeot, Citroen and Mitsubishi cars per year.
